A History of The New York Guild of Chefs
The New York Guild of Chefs, Inc. was formed by a group of chefs and pastry chefs in June of 1987 with the promise to “Share Your Knowledge” as our motto.
The Guild encourages the attitude of support and cooperation with no political or unreasonable competitive demeanor between its members. The New York Guild of Chefs, Inc. is a fraternal, not-for-profit, nonsectarian, nonpolitical and nondescriminating Chefs Association. Our purpose is to promote the professional welfare and prestige of our members and to uphold the practice and ethics of the Culinary profession by holding meetings and training seminars, promoting friendship and to further a spirit of understanding, helpfulness, and cooperation among all Culinarians. We encourage discussions and implementing ways and means to interest the public in the Culinary Arts. We support training programs designed to advance the skills of those who are to follow through scholarships and financial aid as well as our assistance to Culinary and not-for-profit charitable organizations.
The Guild presents the William J. Spry Scholarship for Culinary Arts and the Carmine Baldi, Jr. Scholarship for Pastry Arts to students attending The Culinary Institute and other accredited Culinary Education Institutions. We support a Junior Membership and encourage the perpetuation of the Culinary Arts through scholarships, training seminars and educational referrals as well as networking. The Guild annually participates and competes in various Culinary Salon competitions. The Guild has achieved prestigious medals as well as presenting our medals at Culinary competitions. The Guild is listed in the 1995 Guinness Book of Records in a feature story for our World’s Largest Rice Pudding. At our yearly dinner dance we present various achievement awards to members which includes the Chef of The Year Award, the Member of The Year Award, the Humanitarian of The Year Award, the Purveyor of The Year Award, the President’s Gold Medal, and the Italo C. Granata Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Guild has maintained an event schedule since its beginning of a yearly dinner dance, golf outing and Christmas Holiday Party.
